Globally, the paradigm shift to service economy was triggered by the emergence of tourism as a viable option for socio-economic growth. Given Nigeria’s rich cultural and natural resources, it was obvious that Nigeria has everything necessary to develop tourism. There has been a desire to support the industry by building institutional capacity. Innovative, world-class manpower capacity building to enable the establishment of quality driven professionals that meet global best practices. The Institute is responsible for providing training programs to improve technical and professional skills in all fields of the industry and all specializations directly or indirectly related to the Hospitality and Tourism Industry (NIHOTOUR project document, 1987). The Institute conducts research on the Hospitality and Tourism Industries.
